The Amazing Brain Series
The Amazing Brain series was designed to educate parents and caregivers about early brain development, the effects of trauma on the brain, and the potential for the brain to heal and grow in order to help to prevent the potential long-term physical, mental, behavioral, and cognitive effects of experiencing early trauma. The Health Federation of Philadelphia (formerly The Institute of Safe Families) has created several "Amazing Brain" booklets with the support of Multiplying Connections.
Resources include:
- The Amazing Brain: What Every Parent/Caregiver Needs to Know
- The Amazing Brain: Trauma and the Potential for Healing
- The Amazing Brain and Discipline: Positive Parenting Builds Healthy Brains
- The Amazing Teen Brain
Also featured is a booklet with links to apps, resources and websites called, The Amazing Brain: Partnering with Parents: Apps for Raising Happy, Healthy Children.
Resources are written at a fifth grade level and designed to educate parents about brain development but are appropriate for prevention educators in their work with parents, day cares, youth serving organizations, schools and more. Pediatricians and nurses in school based health care settings will easily find a use for these thoughtful resources in their work. Attorneys for Children, guardians ad litem, supervised visitation monitors, Head Start and other child-serving organizations may also find them appropriate for use with their clients.
Booklets can be purchased and pdf versions can also be downloaded for free.
