Teaching Tolerance
This website, hosted by Southern Poverty Law Center, is an excellent resource for educators who want to promote diversity, equity and justice. Here they can find lessons, suggestions, conversation and support from other teachers who are using lessons from history along with current events to address issues of oppression. Resources also include material that teaches media literacy and nurtures social activism.
Teaching for Tolerance resources include weekly newsletters, monthly magazines, documentaries, videos and a variety of curricula that support teachers to address issues of diversity in the classroom. The website also offers professional development materials for teachers of grades K- 12. Resources focus on improving the school climate, classroom strategies that help to promote a more inclusive classroom environment and reflective teaching with self-directed readings and activities. Teaching Tolerance's educational kits and subscriptions to its magazine are free to classroom teachers, librarians, school counselors, school administrators, professors of education, youth directors at houses of worship and employees of youth-serving nonprofit organizations.
Teachers guides and lesson plans are included in all of the material.
