In the U.S., one in three teens experiences dating violence (TDV) – meaning their partner uses behaviors like physical violence, gaslighting, digital harassment, and stalking to gain and maintain control over them. Both body liberation and violence prevention are about:

  • Affirming our agency and building freedom from external control
  • Expanding access to resources and care
  • Healing within ourselves and in the context of our relationships

This online resource from Futures Without Violence is designed to help parents, caregivers, community members, and professionals support and empower teens by exploring the under-recognized intersection between violence prevention and body liberation and providing dozens of suggestions for a variety of situations.

This online resource explores what body liberation is and how it connects to TDV prevention. It offers concrete strategies that caregivers, professionals, and other adults can use to support bodily autonomy for the teens in their lives, including links to helpful tools and resources for further learning.

This resource is available from Promising Futures, the National Capacity Building Center to Expand Services for Children, Youth, and Abused Parents Impacted by Domestic Violence from Futures Without Violence.
