Red Women Rising
The Red Women Rising campaign is a community driven media project that supports culturally responsive domestic violence services for Urban Indians by increasing public awareness and enhancing collaborations between Urban Indian health organizations, domestic violence service providers and traditional healers.
Many protections exist for women living on tribal land but the majority of American Indian women, over 70 %, live in urban settings. This campaign illuminates the experience and needs of those women. The Red Women Rising project aims to increase awareness around Urban Indian women’s domestic violence issues and enhance their access to domestic violence services.
“The campaign begins with an animated vignette produced in partnership with the Injunuity project that sets up the narrative by acknowledging how violence against women is not traditional, rather a tool of colonialism that has infiltrated our communities.”
The website includes digital stories of hope and resilience, infographics describing the prevalence and magnitude of violence against Indian women and a presentation that describes the media development associated with the campaign.
The webpage houses all of the Red Women Rising media so you can share it on your social media networks, in order to start important conversations about recognizing abuse, stopping violence, and healing as a community. It also includes a #RedWomenRising Social Media Kit to make it easier for organizations to join the movement, a Domestic Violence Resource Directory, and additional resources from Futures that can enhance our members' capacity to serve Urban Indian victims and survivors.
