Pathways in Prevention: A Road Map for Change. Ohio’s Plan for Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence Prevention
Ohio’s statewide prevention plan is the result of several years of collaborative strategic planning resulting in an eight year action plan. Through a consensus building planning process, the following five strategic directions were identified:
- Integrated Strategic Evaluation and Data Collection
- Empowered Local Communities
- Integrated Intra-State Collaboration
- Effective Youth SV and IPV Prevention Recommended Practices
- Leveraging Resources for Maximizing Sustainability
Goal: The purpose of the Ohio’s strategic primary prevention plan is to:
- Institutionalize sexual and intimate partner violence prevention within and throughout Ohio’s local communities as well as state governmental agencies, statewide professional associations, and other state level organizations;
- Continue to build Ohio’s individual, organizational, community, and institutional capacity for primary prevention through implementation and evaluation of this strategic plan; and,
- Ultimately, to impact the incidence and prevalence of sexual and intimate partner violence in Ohio.
State prevention plans are data-driven, thoughtfully crafted action plans developed in partnership with local, regional and statewide stakeholders. This state plan identifies activities and strategies that can be developed and implemented in communities and statewide that focus on healthy relationships; promoting protective factors that reduce the likelihood of intimate partner violence perpetration or victimization. The plan also works to reduce risk factors associated with intimate partner violence perpetration and victimization. This information is useful to any prevention worker seeking to identify and utilize practices that are being tested around the country and are showing promise.
