Hombres Unidos Contra la Violencia Familiar
Hombres Unidos Contra la Violencia Familiar is the first initiative aimed at the primary prevention of sexual and intimate partner violence in the Latino migrant community. It is a peer-led, five session curriculum that was developed through a multi year process that included research, design and development, implementation, modification, and evaluation. Supported by the Centers for Disease and Control, Hombres Unidos was created with the help of expert members in sexual and intimate partner violence prevention (known as the Leadership Consortium) and key staff from the MCN Family Violence Prevention Initiative.
Goal: To develop strategies for Latino migrant men, a particular group of men with limited available resources.
This is a culturally appropriate primary prevention workshop designed for Latino migrant men over the age of 18. There are few prevention resources available for this particular population.
Impact: Evaluated by the Robert Wood Johnson Strengthening What Works Foundation, with a 96.1% retention rate over a three year period. MCN has several testimonies and quotes speaking to its impact, one of which states that "Hombres Unidos was transformational" for the men at Community Health Partners of Illinois.
