The G Word is a global storytelling platform designed to explore and break through the limits of gender expectations. The project encourages people to read/listen to other people's stories about gender-based discrimination and violence and share their own stories in order to connect, heal, and take bold action to challenge violence.
Stories connect people, create new paths for empathy, and poke holes in accepted norms. Through its storytelling platform, The G Word:
- increases conversation, understanding, and analysis about the ways in which gender norms affect our lives
- connects the dots between gender norms and inequality, discrimination, and cycles of violence in the U.S. and around the world
- helps build a critical mass of people who feel that they have something at stake in the issue of gender-based violence and who feel motivated to take action for change (and do!)
Participants can use the website to share their own experiences with gender norms and gender-based violence and read stories from other people worldwide.
