Summer 2017 Newsletter: Celebrating Pride
"Pride is a celebration of our diverse identities and a time for taking action to advance our shared values." (GLSEN)
June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Trans (LGBT) Pride Month, an opportunity to reflect on the history and progress of the LGBT rights movement and acknowledge the important contributions of LGBT-identified individuals and groups. It is a time of celebration, remembrance, and hightened awareness - offering a critical reminder to remain intentional in our efforts to incorporate intersectionality and inclusiveness in our frameworks and approaches to preventing and ending gender-based violence.
This June, consider how you may harness the power of these opportunities to promote love, respect, and peace in our communities and homes:
- #PrideMeans: Show support for LGBTQ students in our schools
- June 15: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day
- June 26: Anniversary of the Legalization of Same-Sex Marriage in the U.S. (2015)
- June 28: Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots (1969)
This issue highlights new additions to the PreventIPV Tools Inventory from GLSEN - the Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network - to support your inclusive prevention practices in classrooms and beyond. See below for information on the CDC's new Technical Package, and for new awareness highlights and podcasts from NRCDV.
