Spring 2023 PreventIPV Newsletter: Centering Equity

Date:
Monday, 24 April 2023

Throughout the month of April, NRCDV has been centering equity for Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17) and Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). We know that inequities in maternal health outcomes, experiences of sexual violence, and anti-Blackness are all deeply connected. In order to make health equity a reality, we must draw connections between systems of oppression and invest in meaningful, equitable partnerships and coalitions.

“We dream of a world where health equity is a reality for Black women and girls. And we can create that world when we center those most impacted in our violence prevention work.” – Patty Branco, NRCDV

This issue of the PreventIPV newsletter highlights resources for SAAM and Black Maternal Health Week 2023, as well as our newly released DELTA FOCUS story. Resources center strategies for building partnerships to advance equity.  We must follow the lead of Black visionaries doing this work. As the National Sexual Violence Resource Center reminds us, prevention demands equity.
