Spring 2017 Newsletter: Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Date:
Monday, 10 April 2017

"We can all use our voices to change the culture to prevent sexual violence."

This April, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center's campaign for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (#SAAM) is centered around Engaging New Voices to promote prevention. It calls on key groups whose influence can play a critical role in shifting the social norms that allow sexual violence to exist.

The IPV Prevention Council has long recognized the important role of engagement as a core prevention strategy. Meaningful collaboration is the key to ensuring that our efforts are impactful, inclusive, and sustainable, leading to real social transformation.

This year's #SAAM campaign compels us to reach out to parents, faith leaders, coaches, Greek life, and other community members to build a unified movement of partners, all who have a role to play in preventing sexual violence.

The PreventIPV Tools Inventory features a variety of models and strategies for transforming the culture to end sexual violence. In this issue, you'll find our prevention "tools of the week" for April that include strategies for engaging influencers of youth, campus communities, and organizational partners.
