PreventIPV Newsletter: Honoring Our Elders

Date:
Thursday, 14 June 2018

“When I am an elder, I want to hear my culture being danced and sung.” – Youth Activist from ANDVSA's When I'm an Elder Campaign

June 15 marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), a time to honor survivors of elder abuse, raise awareness, and advance efforts to prevent this global social issue that impacts the health and human rights of older persons worldwide. WEEAD coincides with the national observance of National LGBTQ Pride Month, reminding us of the importance of creating and sustaining welcome and inclusive services for older adults living at the intersections of oppression.

This issue of the PreventIPV newsletter lifts up prevention strategies that honor the value elders bring to our communities, especially as it relates to the positive development of new generations. Look inside for a special highlight on this year's IPV Prevention Council reception!
